How to get to the front page of DIGG - Part 3

Apple is a great brand that will earn you a place on the front page of digg but so is Firefox. Sure it saved a lot of folks from the insecure Internet Explorer (mind you is the latest version a bit dodgy?) but it can also save you the frustration of unsuccessful attempts at trying to get to the front page of digg. So write a fireside:

story, oops I mean a Firefox story and you will finally earn your reward. But you don’t have to use the Firefox browser to check whether you have finally landed.

Other hot ‘brands’ that can get you on the front page of digg include George Bush, Fox News and Wal-Mart.

Then there is Microsoft bashing. Just because the company makes products that crash, that are too risky in this hacker prone world is not enough reason to go bashing them! No they did not send me an X-box gaming console. The point is people seem to delight in casting Microsoft in bad light and it is people who will put you on the front page of digg. And in the bad books of Microsoft.

ASAP Ventures and what we do?

We started out as an SEO consultancy in 1997, but got bored and sick of clients. Anyone who knows me will not be surprised that I did not have the patience or diplomacy to last.

In 2001 we began developing our own sites, whilst I was being a bum round the world with a laptop. In 2003 www.carrentals.co.uk appeared, simply as an affiliate site to Lastminute.com, developing into a white label partner of Lastminute.com. The site grew and grew to be the largest car hire partner Lastminute had, with a sales turnover of close to £10 million per year.

In 2007 www.carrentals.co.uk became a car hire comparator site and in its first year was responsible for close to £20 million in sales.

ASAP Ventures has also ran many other projects and still does, including:

  1. US$100 million in sales to expedia
  2. www.self-catering-breaks.com - a holiday rental site
  3. www.comparecarrentals.com - a car rental site for none UK residents
  4. Domain buying and selling with a large portfolio of generic domain names

We now operate 4 offices, 3 in the UK and 1 in Brisbane, Australia and have many more projects behind the scenes and if we choose to make them public they will appear here.

How to get to the front page of DIGG - Part 2

Another way is to actually jot something about digg. Of course that could result in being labelled a sycophant but what you want is to get on the front page of digg even if it means kissing a*@, right? And don’t be modest; your mother is not looking.

Yet another way is to be appealing to particular groups such as users of Apple computers and related products. It so happens that even little inconsequential things about Apple get the font page on digg…..are digg people saddos?

Making exaggerations will also get you on the front page of digg. So there’s a broken down satellite heading down to earth? Go on and try to adduce evidence to the fact that the cause of the satellite’s breakdown can be attributed to global warming. True, global warming is one of the coolest topics on digg so get off your backside and start digging for conspiracy stories.

How to get into a merchant brand bidding group - without an invite

Its here to stay so please everyone join in, even if the networks don’t invite you too. I had lunch with a large affiliate the other day and he was dribbling at the mouth.

Ok so how to join unofficially

  1. Take names of top 10 merchants in a sector, eg Expedia, Lastminute, Opodo
  2. Setup a campaign for a merchant like expedia
  3. Set up campaigns for each keyword on exact match and point at expedia.DOUG.co.uk. This page looks the same as expedia.co.uk almost:)
  4. Setup a campaign for Lastminute
  5. Set up campaigns for each keyword on exact match and point at lastminute.DOUG.co.uk. This page looks the same as lastminute.com almost:)
  6. Start bidding high
  7. If merchants complains tell them to f*** off and bid even more for their name and send it to their competitors.

Wait till the dust settles and expedia are paying 25% more for the same traffic……laugh and Lastminute will love you.

Course all merchants may tell you to get lost, but I bet they all don’t.

Cashbacksites the end is nigh

John Lewis think you are all adding no value……”The business model of ‘cash back’ sites is at odds with this ethos, as they offer a permanent discount to online customers that is not available to department store customers”.

A blip in the life of a planet

Between 1800 and 2100 man used all of the useable products in the ground, on the land, in the sea and in the air.

After 2100 we may have to work out how to use the rubbish we created????

OR will we sort it ou before hand?

How to get to the front page of DIGG - Part 1

While notoriety is one way to get to the front page, especially if you are a celebrity, the rest of us have to work harder than that.

One of the best ways to get on digg’s front page is to compile lists. It can be a list of anything that a reader with a very limited attention span would be interested in….ie you if you are still reading:)

Examples: Top ten ways to avoid a parking ticket if you are young and beautiful; top 100 ways to jump the queue and have no one question you; ten ways to avoid the hangover breath getting to your boss. The list is endless.

Buy railways shares

Energy is getting more expensive, so it will become more expensive to transport goods. Hence we must soon look for more efficient ways to transport goods.

Most Westernised countries have reasonably developed railway systems, these have generally not being massively developed or maintained in the recent years. I predicted that we soon see massive development in the rail systems of the “first” world.

The facts are simple:

  • the infrastructure build costs have already been spent
  • we need more means of transport
  • we need more efficient means of transport
