PPC poacher turns gamekeeper
PPC poacher Shane Robinson has become a brand policeman.

This unashamedly is a plug for a mate. I try never to do this as I believe it makes people feel that I can be bought…………send money if you wish and lets see eh:) But the poacher has released a great tool and I had the privilege of him coming down to mine recently and showing it to me:
The tool simply reports on who is bidding on our brand name and then produces a full detailed report for you to use as you wish.
Shane may make quite a few enemies here as he is quite a large affiliate and may be viewed by many as turning from poacher to brand policeman. He has made a fair bit of cash, let us say, from PPC and knows all the tricks, so he knows what to look for and how to abuse a system.
Doug wishing he was as clever as Shane.
We have lost our office frog can you help

New design for this blog…
Seeing how i’ve managed to keep this blog posting up and after this post by Chris Garret, i’ve decided to get proper design for this blog. Anyone who knows me what a nightmare i am when it comes to getting down to the details, so getting a web design i will be happy with is no easy task.
But here’s the first draft from the guys from xyz company, I’m supposed to study it and make suggestions, but thought i would see what other people thought first.
Thoughts please???

Microsoft to launch cashback site
It’s real. Microsoft are to launch a ecommerce comparator with a cash back element.
Some high profile ecommerce sites are involved in the early stages of the program, which is being called “Live Search Cashback”.Microsoft’s aim is to persuade advertisers to join it only if a sale is made. They then hope to get more users by offering a cashback.
Keir McConomy of Spear.co.uk - 33 today - I taught him everything he knows
Happy Birthday Keir mate - 33 today.
Keir is the founder of Spear, which is an affiliate company which did over £75 million in affiliate sales last year.
Incase you did not know Keir was my web designer and then I showed him the light about SEO and PPC and off he went to setup Spear. We actually had a company together, but if any of you know the both of us, then you will realise it was a disaster waiting to happen.
I have no interest in the detail and do very very high level plans, which generally consist of some doodles on a piece of old paper. I then give these ideas to other people and trust them to work out the detail, I hardly interfere and let people find their own way. Then do some more doodles and change my mind as to what I want:)
Keir is anal about detail and likes to plan everything and be in control of the complete process. It works for him and Spear, but not with me around. So we parted ways business wise, but socially I see him all the time and love him popping in for a coffee, we live about 3 miles apart. Hence merchants and affiliate companies can do 2 birds in one visit:)
On a serious note, yes I introduced him to this online world, but he took the concepts and ran with them and I have utmost respect for what he has done. He has taken Spear within 3 years from being unheard of too being a major force in the online space in the UK. Well done you thoroughly deserve it.

Google wants your medical records - very serious
Google have launched google health, so you can give them more of your life:
Google Steals your health records???
Doug getting paranoid
Google Friends Connect - give me your soul
So Google launches Google Friends Connect and the world gets even more scary.
Now you can add a bit of google code to your site and create a social network type function on your own site. Some snippets from their press release:
Visitors to any site using Google Friend Connect will be able to see, invite, and interact with new friends, or, using secure authorization APIs, with existing friends from social sites on the web, including Facebook, Google Talk, hi5, orkut, Plaxo, and more.
My concern with this stuff is the more and more it happens, and it will because as a human race we can’t stop it, then the more personal data becomes available to large companies. This data can be data mined in so many ways, so as to allow companies to control the masses. If I have your browsing patterns I can take your mind anywhere I want it to go.
Doug concerned
What we going to do to control
Steve Brown has left Buy.at
Whatever you may think about buy.at, Steve Brown helped steer that ship for a long time and has now left to let the corporate beast role on. So him and his brother Dave have ran into the sunset.
They have done such a good job that most people don’t know that they were the major shareholders……this is the only picture on the internet of Steve Brown:

Leaving Malcolm Cowley and Kevin Cornils to look after things:

Carl White - Valueclick
Just thought I would do a bit of rambling about people I know in this industry and who I feel are influential……if I don’t know you and you feel like you are missing out, then please email and say hello:)
Carl White - CEO Valueclick Europe controls the European bit of a US$2 billion company
Carl White is first cause he probably controls the most cash…it’s not his though:)

Carl is a mad Birmingham City football supporter and seems to have been infected with that disease for 43 years, aside from that a generaly nice bloke, he tries to keep fit by cycling down hill each morning….wrong way sir.

But don’t be lulled into thinking cause he looks silly he is, far from it. He can talk rubbish with me and then must be good at playing corporate power games to be where he is.
He did a degree at Bristol University.
He held sales management positions at Gruner and Jahr, Media Week and Centaur Communications.
He worked for the BBC and did something on Walking with Dinosaurs, walk on part maybe:)
He was Chief Operating Officer of 24/7 Europe and was responsible for media and technology businesses in thirteen countries.
He joined ValueClick in October 2001 as Chief Operating Officer for ValueClick Europe and was promoted to Chief Executive Officer for Europe August 2006. Carl is responsible for the overall management and growth of ValueClick’s European subsidiaries: ValueClick Media, Commission Junction, Mediaplex and PriceRunner.co.uk across London, Munich, Paris and Stockholm.
When he gives me a large cheque for some of our stuff I will buy him a new bike.
Doug is going back to his bike

More interesting facts
More people are killed by donkeys annually than are killed in plane crashes.
The Spanish word esposa means “wife.” The plural, esposas, means “wives,” but also “handcuffs.”
Abraham Lincoln’s dog, Fido, was assassinated too.
In comic strips, the person on the left always speaks first.
If the entire population of earth was reduced to exactly 100 people, 51% would be female, 49% male; 50% of the world’s currency would be held by 6 people, one person would be nearly dead, one nearly born.
Topless saleswomen are legal in Liverpool, England, but only in tropical fish stores.
Doug still amused
