Over the years I have met many of the good and great seo’s in the world and they all have one common theme….they are mad.

Seriously they all seem to have some strange but similar characteristics:

  • large number of dyslexics
  • large number of left handers
  • all are obsessive
  • most can’t finish a task
  • most did not do well in academia
  • most are hopeless at being employees
  • they all like to work at night
  • most are heavy drinkers
  • most are over weight
  • they are all odd
  • most have bad diets

Just look at some well known mad people and then check if they are a seo’s

Dave Naylor - www.davidnaylor.co.uk

Dave is no longer drinking

Aaron Wall - www.aaronwall.com

Aaron is no longer playing football or looking like this

Jason Duke - www.strangelogic.com

Jason is now a corporate teaboy

Jeremy Schoemaker - www.shoemoney.com

Jeremy is no longer sleeping with Paris Hilton

Barry Lloyd - www.makemetop.com

Barry looks nothing like this

Dixon Jones - www.dixonjones.com

Dixon still looks the same - ugh

Just a small selection here of mad people, why do they all have the same traits?

You missed out smoking, sleep problems and extreme bouts of paranoia especially when looking at rankings ;o)

  2. Esrun Says:

I’ll second this! One thing I’d add is bad memory :)

  3. PaulH Says:

That counts me out then, i have a well well balanced diet - burger in one hand, cake in the other

  4. Paul @ SEOidiot Says:

    Im not left handed
    Im not unbalanced
    I do finish stuff
I have been a good employee
    I am drunk quite often
    I am a tad overweight

Obviously a crap seo then …. but we suspected that all along didnt we ;)

  5. SEO Canada Says:

Luckily over here at Beanstalk Search Engine Positioning the only things we can claim are bad diets (there are always Miss Vicki’s Salt and Vinegar chips around), and we’re obsessive about checking the SERPs ;)

  6. Jason Duke Says:

    Anyone for a cuppa ?

  7. Hobo SEO Says:

Leigh - That depends on what you’re smoking, surely.

It’s not surprising we can’t get proper jobs and have to seo looking at these skills.

  8. David Eaves Says:

  13. Ian Turner Says:

  14. Jaan Kanellis Says:

Pretty sad I am all of them

I guess I should start drinking more, maybe it will help prevent me from getting banned from adsense.

  16. Lyndon Antcliff Says:

    and the rest.

I must have the worst employment record of any seo.

  17. Mary Says:

If this is meant to be a joke it is a bit frightining for myself

  18. john andrews Says:

At first I thought you meant mad as in angry. But you mean mad as in crazy. Huh. I think your assertion makes me mad.

Oh, and if you ever want to meet a quirky bunch, hang out with some linguists. And, if you have the need for more punishment, limit your company to quantitative linguists. And then return to the SEO community for respite.

    /duplicated for any non-sphinners reading…

    dyslexics - dyspraxic. close enough?

    left handed - yep

obsessive - only about the important stuff. it is just that others often disagree about what is important ;)

can’t finish a task - it isn’t that I can’t finish, its just many projects are still mid-analysis. they’ll get one day. probably. hopefully

school sucked - yep. Uni wasn’t a lot better. Stopped when I realised my Psychology and Computing degree was really a PSYCHOLOGY (& little bit of computing) degree.

gladly let bosses know exactly how and why they suck - yep

night owls - daytime planning, night time working, dawn sleeping

heavy drinkers - I don’t touch beer, cider, whiskey, lager, gin etc. I’m assuming vodka, water, juice, vodka, coke and vodka are ok? ;)

over weight - I certainly don’t feel the cold, come winter time…

    odd - ?

bad diets - only if I’m cooking. My wife cooks good meals, I only cook when the food comes in a nice box telling me how long to cook at what temperature. I can co-ordinate 5/6 items to all finish at the same time, with correct tweaking of original minutes & temperatures; however I don’t know how long to boil pasta, fry meat or bake potatoes…

    Final score - 8 or 9/10, with a ? on odd…
